When you put your home on the market, you want it to look its best. But not only right at the beginning, or when the photos are taken, but all the time. Showings can happen at any time and if your home isn’t ready, it can really turn people away. People coming into your home will make note of what is dirty or cluttered, so it’s best to keep on top of tasks so you are always prepared and your home is show ready.
Here are a few things that you can do that will help you stay on top of keeping your home as clean as possible. They are quick and easy so no need to worry.
While you might walk around your home and get overwhelmed by thinking you need to clean it all at once, break it up into sections. When you start each section, be sure to work the “top-to-bottom” method. This means you need to dust fixtures, wipe counters and other higher surfaces, before moving onto the floors.
After this, focus on the areas that will catch someones eye like floors and fixtures.
It’s good to keep up on these things every day or two, then do a deep clean once a week.
Fake the clean
If you’re in a pinch, you can make a room look clean without putting on the gloves and getting into the cracks. Take a look around the room and clear the eye-catching areas. Even doing a quick clutter pick-up will help a room seem much cleaner and open. Give your appliances and floors a quick wipe down as well to remove any dirt and grime.
Focus most of your efforts on the bathrooms and kitchen because these are the rooms that will show the most mess.
When you know you will be showing your home, you are able to pack up the things that you know you won’t be using, which makes it easy to keep them out of the home. But what about the things you use daily? A great solution is to use small storage such as baskets or totes. Putting your things away will keep them out of site but allow you to bring them back out when a showing is done.
Stay at the top
By doing small things during the day, you are able to save yourself a lot of time before a showing by not having a huge mess to clean up at once. Pick up as you go. Make it a habit to clean and put away your dishes as you use them, and put things away when you’re done.
Now this is harder if you have kids, because they like to bring everything out, but every bit helps.
